Introduction
So that (astfel încât) și so…that (atât de…încât) sunt două construcții diferite, deși similare, care au semnificații diferite.
So that accentuează consecvența acțiunilor sau a scopurilor. So…that arată cum extremele duc la rezultate certe.
Form
So that (ca și clauză adverbială de rezultat) și so…that (ca și adverb de grad) sunt două structuri diferite, dar putem omite that în ambele cazuri.
Structura lui so that este:
Clause 1 + so that + clause 2
Structura lui so… that este:
Clause 1 + so + adjective/adverb + that + clause 2
Example
So that
- I am going to special classes so that I will become a good IT guy.
- He is saving money so that he can buy a new laptop.
- I asked my mom to watch the kids so that we can go to the cinema.
So…that
- Those PCs had so many viruses that they couldn’t use them.
- My grandfather is so short that I have to reach the top shelves for him.
- The car was going so fast that I thought we were going to die.
Use
De obicei, folosim so that (clauză adverbială de rezultat) ca și construcție de legătură între două propoziții, unde a doua propoziție exprimă rezultatul sau scopul din prima propoziție.
Utilizăm so…that (adverb de grad) pentru a crea o comparație între două obiecte. Se folosește pentru a accentua o acțiune cu scopul de a arăta că ceva duce la anumite rezultate.
Summary
Folosim clauza adverbială de rezultat so that pentru a face accent pe consecvența unei acțiuni sau scop:
Clause 1 + so that + clause 2
Folosim so…that pentru a face o comparație între două lucruri:
Clause 1 + so + adjective/adverb + that + clause 2
De exemplu:
— „I will save some money so that I can go on holiday.” = Folosim so that pentru a exprima consecvența economisirii de bani.
— „I am so rich that I don’t have to save money to go on holiday.” = Folosim so…that pentru a compara condiția și rezultatul.
NOTĂ: Putem omite that în ambele structuri când vorbim.
