Introduction
Verbul modal [modal verb] este tipul de verb auxiliar (ajutător) care nu are semnificație desinestătătoare, dar care modifică verbul principal, îi schimbă semnificația și-i oferă mai multe detalii despre acțiuni.
Have to (Trebuie) este un tip de verb modal auxiliar folosit pentru a exprima certitudinea, necesitatea sau obligația strictă când vine din afară, de la factorii externi.
Form
Have to poate fi exprimat în trei forme:
Afirmativ [affirmative]
Structura lui, în forma afirmativă , este:
Subject + have/has to + verb + …
- Have/has: în forma afirmativă, persoana a treia singular își schimbă forma din have în has.

Negativ
Structura lui, în forma negativă [negative], este:
Subject + do/does + not + have to + verb + …
- Do/does: în forma negativă, persoana a treia singular își schimbă forma din do în does;
- Prescurtările formei negative sunt aceleași ca și formele scurte ale prezentului simplu: I don’t – you don’t – he doesn’t…

Interogativ
Structura lui, în forma interogativă [interrogative], este:
Do/Does + subject + have to + verb + …?
- Do/does: în forma negativă, persoana a treia singular își schimbă forma din do în does.

Example
Obligație strictă
- The owner said I have to move to another house.
- She doesn’t have to clean the kid’s clothes everyday.
- Do we have to clean the mess we made in the kitchen?
Necesitate
- I have to buy a new fridge, the one I have is broken.
- Alissa doesn’t have to search for a student flat.
- Do they have to paint the walls?
Fără obligație (negativ)
- We don’t have to sell the pig.
- He doesn’t have to clean his room.
- They don’t have to return from the island.
Certitudine/așteptări motivate
- This has to be her flat! She said it’s floor 2, flat 13.
- The roses don’t have to be in a good state.
- Do they have to boast like that? We know they are rich.
Use
Have to se utilizează pentru a arăta că există o obligație impusă de factorii externi. Se utilizează pentru a arăta:
- Că ceva este așteptat motivat sau există o certitudine (afirmativ, negativ, interogativ);
- O obligație strictă (afirmativ, interogativ);
- O necesitate (afirmativ, negativ, interogativ);
- Fără necesitate sau obligație de a face ceva (negativ).
Summary
Verbul modal have to (Trebuie) exprimă certitudinea, obligația strictă, necesitatea sau lipsa de obligație care vine din afară, de la factori externi.
Structurile sunt:
- Afirmativ: Subject + have/has to + verb + …
- Negativ: Subject + do/does + not + have to + verb + …
- Interogativ: Do/Does + subject + have to + verb + …?
De exemplu:
— Afirmativ: „I have to go to school every day.” = Subiectul este obligat să meargă la școală în fiecare zi.
— Negativ: „She doesn’t have to go to school every day.” = Nu este necesar ca subiectul să meargă la școală în fiecare zi.
— Interogativ: „Does she have to go to school every day?” = Întrebăm dacă subiectul este obligat să meargă la școală în fiecare zi.
NOTĂ: Don’t have to (forma negativă a lui have to) de obicei, exprimă că ceva nu este necesar să fie făcut.
