Introduction
Modalni glagol [modal verb] je vrsta pomoćnog glagola koji sam nema značenje, ali može oblikovati glavni glagol tako da mu mijenja značenje i daje više informacija o njegovoj radnji.
Have to je modalni glagol koji se koristi za izricanje sigurnosti u nešto, potrebe ili čvrste obaveze koje dolaze izvana i nisu rezultat osobnog mišljenja.
Form
Modalni glagol have to se koristi u tri oblika:
Affirmative
Struktura u potvrdnom obliku:
Subject + have/has to + verb + …
- Have/has: u potvrdnom obliku se treće lice jednine mijenja iz have u has.

Example
- Sigurnost u nešto/očekivanje nečega s razlogom
- This has to be her flat! She said it’s floor 2, flat 13.
- This house doesn’t have to be in a good state.
- Do they have to be rich? They live in a luxury flat in the city center.
- Čvrsta obaveza
- The owner said I have to move to another house.
- She doesn’t have to clean the kid’s clothes everyday.
- Do we have to clean the mess we made in the kitchen?
- Potreba
- I have to buy a new fridge, the one I have is broken.
- Alissa doesn’t have to search for a student flat.
- Do they have to paint the walls?
- Ne-zabrana (negativni oblik)
- We don´t have to ride a horse.
- He doesn’t have to clean his room.
- They don´t have to return from the island?
Use
Have to koristimo za prikazivanje obaveza koje su nametnute izvana. Koristi se kada:
- Postoji razlog za iščekivanje nečega ili kad smo sigurni u nešto (potvrdni, negativni i upitni oblik);
- Se izriče čvrsta obaveza (potvrdni i upitni oblik);
- Se izriče potreba (potvrdni, negativni i upitni oblik);
- Nešto nije potrebno ili obvezujuće (negativni oblik).
Summary
Modalni glagol have to se koristi za izricanje sigurnosti u nešto, potrebe ili čvrste obaveze koje dolaze izvana i nisu rezultat osobnog mišljenja.
Strukture:
- Potvrdni oblik: Subject + have/has to + verb + …
- Negativni oblik: Subject + do/does + not + have to + verb + …
- Upitni oblik: Do/does + subject + have to + verb + …?
Naprimjer:
— Potvrdni oblik: “I have to go to school every day.” = Subjekt mora ići u školu svaki dan.
— Negativni oblik: “She doesn’t have to go to school every day.” = Subjekt ne mora ići u školu svaki dan.
— Upitni oblik: “Does she have to go to school every day?” = Postavlja se pitanje mora li subjekt ići u školu svaki dan.
NAPOMENA: Don’t have to (negativni oblik glagola have to) uobičajeno označava da neku radnju nije potrebno izvršiti.
