Introduction
Zamjenice [pronouns] su riječi koje se koriste umjesto imenica kako bi se izbjeglo njihovo ponavljanje {vidi Pronouns – Subject, A1 Level}.
Odnosne zamjenice [relative pronouns] se koriste u odnosnim rečenicama. Označavaju ljude ili stvari zamjenjujući subjekt u glavnoj rečenici kako bi se izbjeglo njegovo ponavljanje u odnosnoj rečenici {vidi Pronouns – Relative, A1 level}.
Form
Relativne zamjenice where i when dolaze nakon imenica.
Example
Where
- This is the shopping centre where I bought a gift for my mom.
- It is the butcher’s where my brother worked.
- This is the hotel where we stayed during our trip.
When
- I can’t forget the day when my dad opened our bakery.
- The winter when I started working as a shop assistant was cold.
- The day when the hairdresser died was my birthday.
Use
Where i when se koriste s odnosnim rečenicama. Koristimo:
- Where kad želimo znati mjesto radnje koja se opisuje u rečenici;
- When kad želimo znati vrijeme radnje koja se opisuje u rečenici.
Summary
Odnosne zamjenice [relative pronouns] where (mjesto) i when (vrijeme) koristimo u odnosnim rečenicama kako bismo izbjegli ponavljanje subjekta glavne rečenice. Dolaze ispred imenica.
Naprimjer:
— “I work in London, where 8 millions of people live.” = Where se odnosi na London (mjesto).
— “I work in London last summer, when you where in the countryside.” = When se odnosi na vremenski period u Londonu (vrijeme).
