Introduction

Must aditza berez aditz laguntzailea (lagungarria) da, bakarrik esanahirik ez duena baina aditz nagusia eta haren esanahia aldatzen duena eta ekintzari buruzko detaile gehiago ematen ditu.

Should aditz laguntzaile mota bat da betebeharra edo gomendio, aholkua emateko erabiltzen dena.

Form

Should-ek beti dauka forma berdina hirugarren pertsonarako eta guzti, eta egitura hau aurkitzen dugu hiru formetan.

Affirmative

Baiezko forman, hurrengo egitura dauka:
Subject + should + verb + …

Subject should Verb
I/You should work
He/She/It should work
We/You/They should work

Negative

Ezezko forman, hurrengo egitura dauka:
Subject + should + not + verb + …

Subject should + not Verb
I/You should not work
He/She/It should not work
We/You/They should not work

Ezezko formaren forma laburtua hurrengoa da: shouldn’t.

Interrogative

Galdera forman, hurrengo egitura dauka:
Should + subject + verb + …?

Example

Betebehar ahulak

  • should never be late to school again!
  • He shouldn’t talk to his classmates during the exam.
  • We should always wear seatbelts when we drive the car.

Aholkuak (gomendioak)

  • You should be quiet when you visit a public library.
  • She shouldn’t revise the units that are not in the exam.
  • Should we memorise this rule?

Use

Should erabiltzen dugu:

  • Betebehar ahulagoa adierazteko;
  • aholkuak emateko eta eskatzeko (gomendioak).

Should ez da must bezain indartsua.

Should aditz modala betebehar edo aholku ahulagoak adierazten ditu. Ez da must bezain indartsua.

Era ezberdinetan erabili dezakegu:

  • Baiezkoa: Subjektuarekin hasten gara eta should eta aditza ondoren.
  • Ezezkoa: Subjektuarekin hasten gara eta should not eta aditza ondoren.
  • Galdera: Should-ekin hasten gara gehi subjektua eta aditza ondoren (esaldia galdera marka batekin amaitzen da).

Adibidez:
— Baiezko: “You should do your homework to understand the subject.” = Should aholkua modu atseginean emateko erabiltzen da.
— Ezezko: “You shouldn’t do your homework to understand the subject.” = Shouldn’t aholkua modu atseginean emateko erabiltzen da.
— Galdera: “Should you do your homework to understand the subject?” = Should? aholku edo berrespen bat eskatzeko erabiltzen da.
♦ “You must do your homework or you will fail the class.” = Must betebehar sendoago bat erakusten du.
