Introduction

Modāls darbības vārds [modal verb] ir palīgdarbības vārda veids, kuram nav nozīmes vienam pašam, bet tas pārveido galveno darbības vārdu, mainot to nozīmi un sniedzot vairāk informācijas par darbību.

Should ir modāls palīgdarbības vārda veids, ko izmanto, lai izteiktu pienākumu ar ieteikuma vai rekomendācijas palīdzību.

Form

Should vienmēr ir viena un tā paša forma, pat ar trešo personu vienskaitlī, tā formulu var atrast trijās formās.

Apgalvojuma

Izmantojamā formula apgalvojuma [affirmative] formā:
Subject + should + verb + …

Subject should Verb
I/You should work
He/She/It should work
We/You/They should work

Nolieguma

Izmantojamā formula nolieguma [negative] formā:
Subject + should + not + verb + …

  • Nolieguma formas saīsinātā forma ir: shouldn’t.
Subject should + not Verb
I/You should not work
He/She/It should not work
We/You/They should not work

Jautājuma

Izmantojamā formula jautājuma [interrogative] formā:
Should + subject + verb + …?

Example

Neobligāti pienākumi

  • I should never be late to school again!
  • He shouldn’t talk to his classmates during the exam.
  • We should always wear a seat belts whilst driving a car.

Ieteikumi (rekomendācijas)

  • You should be quiet when you visit a public library.
  • She shouldn’t revise the parts that are not to be examined.
  • Should we memorise this rule?

Use

Should var uzskatīt par mazāk obligātu, nekā must. Should izmanto, ja:

  1. Nosaka neobligātus pienākumus;
  2. Dod vai prasa ieteikumu (rekomendāciju).

Summary

Modālais darbības vārds [modal verb] should izsaka neobligātus pienākumus vai ieteikumus. To var uzskatīt par vājāku, nekā must.

Izmantojamās formulas:

  • Apgalvojumiem: Subject + should + verb + …
  • Noliegumiem: Subject + should + not + verb + …
  • Jautājumiem: Should + subject + verb + …?

Piemēram:
— Apgalvojums: “You should do your homework to understand the subject.” = Should izmanto, lai draudzīgi dotu ieteikumu.
— Noliegums: “You shouldn´t do your homework to understand the subject.” = Shouldn’t izmanto, lai draudzīgi dotu ieteikumu.
— Jautājums: “Should you do your homework to understand the subject?” = Should? izmanto, lai jautātu par apstiprinājumu vai ieteikumu.
♦ “You must do your homework or you will fail the class.” = Must izsaka obligātu pienākumu.
