Introduction

Bai should zein ought to modal verbs deituriko talde baten barruan satzen dira, ez daukate esanahirik bakarrik baina aditz nagusia eta haren esanahia aldatzen du eta ekintzari buruzko detaile gehiago ematen ditu.

Should eta ought to betebeharra edo gomendio, aholkua emateko erabiltzen dira.

Form

Should eta ought to beti infinitibo aditz bat dute atzetik. Forma berdina daukate hirugarren pertsona singularrerako.

Baiezko formak:

  • Should: Subject + should + infinitive + …
  • Ought to: Subject + ought to + infinitive + …

Ezezko formak:

  • Should: Subject + should + not + infinitive + …
  • Ought to: Subject + ought + not + to + infinitive + …

Galdera formak:

  • Should: Should + subject + infinitive + …?
  • Ought to: Ought + subject + to + infinitive + …?

Example

Should

  • We should go now. / We should to go now.
  • We shouldn’t go now.
  • Should we go now?

Ought to

  • We ought to go now. / We ought go now.
  • We oughtn’t to go now.
  • Ought we to go now?

Use

Aditz modal biak esanahi oso antzekoa daukate eta batek beste bet ordezkatu dezake. Must-ekin konparatuz ez dira hain indartsuak.

Baina, should gehiago erabiltzen da eta ought to baina informalagoa da. Ought to iez da ia inoiz ezezko edo galdera formetan erabiltzen.

Summary

Should eta ought to aditz modalak betebehar edo aholku ahulagoa adierazten du. Beti doaz infinitibo aditz batekin.
