Introduction

Shall to czasownik modalny używany w pytaniach o instrukcje i sformułowaniach grzecznościowych wyrażających prośbę.

Form

Formułujemy pytania z Shall używając tej struktury:
Shall + subject* + verb + …?

* jest używany tylko w pierwszej osobie liczby pojedynczej oraz mnogiej

Example

  1. Oferty
    • Shall I bring you an aperitif?
    • Shall I bring you a glass?
    • Shall we do it for you?
  2. Sugestie
    • Shall I ask for the bill now?
    • Shall I book a table?
    • Shall we go to an Italian restaurant?
  3. Pytania o instrukcje
    • My guests are vegetarians, what shall I cook?
    • I’m allergic to onion so what shall I do if I accidentally eat some?
    • What shall we do if the baby doesn’t drink the milk?

Use

Używamy Shall do zadawania pytań albo formułowania próśb w sposób grzecznościowy. Jest używane jedynie w pierwszej osobie liczby pojedynczej i mnogiej do:

  1. Oferowania pomocy lub usługi;
  2. Zasugerowania czegoś;
  3. Zapytania o instrukcję.

Summary

Używamy czasownika modalnego shall do zadawania pytań o instrukcje i formułowania próśb w grzecznościowy sposób:

Struktura:
Shall + subject* + verb + …?

Na przykład:
— “Shall we help them?” = Shall jest uważany za bardziej formalny i nie jest powszechnie stosowany.
♦ “Will we help them?” = Will jest mniej formalny i jest częściej używany.

UWAGA: Will oraz shall mają to samo znaczenie, ale są używane tylko w pierwszej osobie liczby pojedynczej i mnogiej.
