Introduction

  • Present perfect: Subject + have/has + past participle + …
  • Past simple: Subject + Verb (Past tense) + …

Formy przeczące:

  • Present perfect: Subject + have/has + not + past participle + …
  • Past simple: Subject + did + not + verb + …

Formy pytające:

  • Present perfect: Have/Has + subject + past participle + …?
  • Past simple: Did + subject + verb + …?

Example

Present perfect

  • I have lived in Chicago for 10 years, I still live in Chicago.
  • She hasn’t played the piano in 3 years (the last time was 3 years ago).
  • Have they lived together for a year (they are still together)?

Past simple

  • I lived in Chicago for 10 years, now I live in San Diego.
  • She didn’t play the piano for 3 years, but she started playing again this week..
  • Did they live together for a year (they are not together anymore)?

Use

Używamy present perfect do mówienia o krótkich lub długich wydarzeniach, które miały miejsce w przeszłości i wciąż mają konsekwencje w teraźniejszości lub o takich, które miały miejsce w niezakończone wyrażenia czasowe (this monthtoday, this year…)

Używamy past simple do mówienia o krótkich lub długich wydarzeniach, które miały miejsce i zakończyły się w zakończone wyrażenia czasowe przeszłości (two weeks agolast yearin 2010yesterday…).

Summary

Czasy present perfect oraz past simple różnią się znaczeniem i formą.

Na przykład:
— “have been to the cinema four times this month.” = Używamy present perfect czasownika to be by wyrazić, że nadawca rozpoczął czynność w okresie, który jeszcze się nie skończył (this month).
— “went to the cinema four times last month.” = Używamy past simple czasownika to go by wyrazić, że nadawca zakończył czynność w przeszłości (last month).
