Introduction

To be used to ir izteiciens, kuru izmanto, lai runātu par pazīstamiem paradumiem un pazīstamām paražām.

Kad izteikts apgalvojuma [affirmative] formā, darbības vārds apstiprina, ka teikuma priekšmetam ir kāds paradums.

Form

To be used to apgalvojuma formā ir sekojoša formula:
Subject + to be + used to + [verb + -ing]/pronoun/noun phrase  + …

  • Apgalvojuma formas saīsinātās formas ir tādas pašas kā to be saīsinātās formas: I’m – you’re – he’s…
Subject To Be used to Verb + -ing
I am used to working
You are used to working
He/She/It is used to working
We/You/They are used to working

Example

  • They‘re used to working in a big, modern city.
  • I have had long hair since I was a child so I‘m used to it now.
  • He is used to the noise of the washing machine.

Use

To be used to formula apgalvojuma formā apstiprina priekšmetus vai darbības, kas ir pazīstami/pazīstamas kādam vai tiek uzskatīti/uzskatītas par paradumu.

To be used to apgalvojuma [affirmative] formā apstiprina paradumus un paražas, ko uzskata par pazīstamiem/pazīstamām.Izmantojamā formula:

Piemēram:
— “You are used to having breakfast early in the morning.” = Breakfast ir teikuma priekšmeta paradums.

PIEZĪME: Nesajauc to ar to use to, kas var parādīties tikai teikumos ar pagātnes laiku.

Piemēram:
— “You are used to having breakfast early in the morning.” = Izmantojam to be used to, lai izrādītu darbību, kas ir teikuma priekšmeta paradums dotajā brīdī.
♦ “You used to have breakfast early in the morning.”= Izmantojam to use to, lai parādītu darbību, kas notika pagātnē, bet vairs nenotiek.
