Introduction
Past Continuous či Progressive používáme, když mluvíme o minulé události, která se odehrávala po určitou dobu v minulosti.
Slovesem v Tázacím tvaru se ptáme, zda se v minulosti něco po určitou dobu odehrávalo.

Form
Tázací tvar Past Continuous či Progressive slovesa to work má následující formu:
Was/Were + subject + [verb + -ing] + …?

Use
Past Continuous používáme, když mluvíme o událostech či činnostech, které se odehrály v minulosti. Obvykle chceme vyjádřit, že trvaly po určitou dobu.
Past Continuous používáme v následujících případech:
- Delší činnost na pozadí přerušena krátkou neočekávanou událostí (něco se najednou stane zatímco jiná činnost již nějakou dobu probíhá);
- Událost odehrávající se v konkrétně vyjádřeném čase (vyjádřené datum, hodina či specifický čas události, která se v minulosti nějakou dobu odehrávala);
- Nepřerušené události trvající po nějakou dobu (probíhající událost v minulosti v průběhu delšího období);
- Nélka časového období v minulosti;
- Simultánní události v minulosti (něco se odehrávalo zároveň s další událostí);
- Sled událostí odehrávajících se v minulosti (obvykle při popisování situace, ve které se děje více událostí najendou);
- Opakující se či otravné události (s “always” či podobným výrazem, který vyjadřuje opakující se činnost).

Tázací tvar Past Continuous má následující formu:
Was/Were + subject + [verb + -ing] + …? (e.g. Was I playing?).
Například:
—“Was I playing football when the phone rang?“ = Zde jsme použili Past Continuous, jelikož se ptáme na přerušení probíhající události v minulosti.
> „Did I play football?“ = V tomto případě jsme použili Past Simple, jelikož vyjadřujeme, že se činnost odehrála, ale i skončila v minulosti.
