Introduction

Některá slovesa v anglickém jazyce následuje buď slovesný tvar v Gerund (-ing), (který se chová jako podstatné jméno, nikoliv jako sloveso) nebo Infinitive.

EXTRA: Gerund = Gerundiu; Infinitive = Infinitiv.

Form

Zde vidíme některá slovesa, které následuje buď Gerund, nebo Infinitive:

  • verbs + gerund [verb + -ing]: admit, avoid, celebrate, dislike, suggest, give up, miss, tolerate
  • verbs + infinitive [to + verb]: agree, care, decide, hope, manage, pretend, seem, wait

Example

  • Verbs + gerund
    • They admitted making a mistake.
    • He avoided paying taxes.
    • She celebrated passing her driving test.
  • Verbs + infinitive
    • We agreed to pay more for the house.
    • She just doesn’t care to come tonight.
    • I decided to travel for a year.

Use

Neexistuje žádné pravidlo, podle kterého bychom mohli tato slovesa rozpoznat. Postupem času si díky procvičování zapamatujete, která slovesa se pojí s Gerund, a která s Infinitive.

— „I admit loving you.“ = Se slovesem „to admit“ se pojí Gerund.
— „I decided to marry him.“ = Se slovesem „to decide“ se pojí Infinitive.
