Introduction

Obstajajo glagoli, ki jim sledijo glagolniki [gerunds] ali nedoločniki [infinitives].

Form

Glagoli, ki jim sledi glagolnik (glagol, ki se obnaša kot samostalnik) ali nedoločnik (osnovna oblika glagola, pred katerim stoji to) imajo strukture:

  • Najpogosteje rabljeni glagoli + glagolnik [glagol + -ing] so: admit, avoid, celebrate, dislike, suggest, give up, miss, tolerate
  • Najpogosteje rabljeni glagoli + nedoločnik [to + glagol] so: agree, care, decide, hope, manage, pretend, seem, wait

Example

  • Glagoli + glagolniki
    • They admitted making a mistake.
    • He avoided paying taxes.
    • She celebrated passing her driving test.
  • Glagoli + nedoločniki
    • We agreed to pay more for the house.
    • She just doesn’t care to come tonight.
    • I decided to travel for a year.

Use

Glagol +  glagolnik/nedoločnik uporabljamo, če želimo po glagolu dodati še eno dejanje. Nekatere glagole uporabljamo skupaj z glagolniki in nekatere z nedoločniki; ne obstaja pravilo, ki bi jih razlikovalo.

Summary

Nekaterim glagolom mora slediti glagolnik [gerund] (glagoli, ki se obnašajo kot samostalniki) ali nedoločnik [infinitive] (to + glagol). Ne obstaja pravilo na to temo, zaradi česar se jih moramo naučiti na pamet.

  • Najpogosteje rabljeni glagoli, ki jim sledi glagolnik so: admit, avoid, celebrate, dislike, suggest, give up, miss, tolerate

— “I admit loving you.” = Glagolu admit sledi glagolnik
— “I decided to marry him.” =Glagolu decide sledi nedoločnik.
