Gerunds ve Infinitives Alan Fiiller

Introduction

Bazı fiillerden sonra genellikle fiil yerine isim olarak kullanılan Gerund hali veya Infinitive hali kullanılır.

Form

Aşağıdaki fiiller Gerund (isim gibi kullanılan fiil) veya Infinitive (fiilin yalın hali) ile birlikte kullanılırlar:

  • En yaygın kullanılan fiil + gerund [fiil + -ing]: admit, avoid, celebrate, dislike, suggest, give up, miss, tolerate…
  • En yaygın kullanılan fiil + infinitive [to + fiil]: agree, care, decide, hope, manage, pretend, seem, wait…

Example

Fiil + gerund

  • They admitted making a mistake.
  • He avoided paying taxes.
  • She celebrated passing her driving test.

Fiil + infinitive

  • We agreed to pay more for the house.
  • She just doesn’t care to come tonight.
  • I decided to travel for a year.

Use

Fiili başka bir eylem takip ediyorsa fiil + infinitive yapısını kullanırız. Bu kural için yazılı bir formül ve yöntem olmadığı için en doğrusu pratik yaparak zamanla hangi fiillerde sonra Gerund hangilerinden sonra Infinitive geldiğini öğrenmek olacaktır.

Summary

Bazı fiiller ardından Gerund (isim gibi kullanılan fiil) veya Infinitive (fiilin yalın hali) alırlar.

  • En yaygın Gerund fiilleri şunlardır: admit, avoid, celebrate, dislike, suggest, give up, miss, tolerate…
  • En yaygın Infinitive fiilleri şunlardır: agree, care, decide, hope, manage, pretend, seem, wait…

Örnek:
— “I admit loving you.” = Kabul etmek fiili Gerund ile birlikte kullanılıyor.
— “I decided to marry him.” = Karar vermek fiili Infinitive ile birlikte kullanılıyor.
