Introduction
Müvəqqəti cümlələr [temporal clauses] bağlayıcılarla bağlanan müstəqil və asılı cümlələrdən ibarət olan zərf cümlələrinin bir hissəsidir. Müvəqqəti cümlələrin bağlayıcıları müəyyən bir zaman nöqtəsinə istinad edirlər.
Form
Müvəqqəti cümlələr [temporal clauses] sözlər sırasına görə fərqlənən, məna baxımından fərqli olmayan iki növ quruluş vasitəsilə ifadə edilə bilər:
- Connector + clause + , + clause
- Clause + connector + clause

Sonra

Əvvəl

- Before it starts raining, we should leave.
- We should leave before it starts raining.
Nə vaxt
- When she had a disease, she felt bad.
- She felt bad when she had a disease.
- When they were sleeping, the light was on.
- The light was on when they were sleeping.
Ərzində
- While you were reading, they had some coffee.
- They had some coffee while you were reading.
- While he is doing the exercise, he feels good.
- He feels good while he is doing the exercise.
Use
Daha mürəkkəb cümlələr yaratmaq və hadisəni konkret an və ya dövrdə tapmaq üçün müvəqqəti cümlələrdən [temporal clauses] istifadə edirik.
Müvəqqəti bəndlər aşağıdakı bağlayıcılar [connectors] sayəsində mənalı olur:
- Sonra [after] (sonrakı hadisə);
- Əvvəl [before] (əvvəlki hadisə);
- Nə vaxt [when] (müəyyən bir anda);
- Ərzində [while] (başqa bir hadisə ilə eyni zamanda);

Bağlayıcılar [connectors] bunlardır: əvvəl [before], sonra [after], nə vaxt [when] və ərzində [while].
Struktur:
Bağlayıcıdan sonra cümlələr, vergül və başqa bir bənd ilə başlayırıq. Bağlayıcı və bənddən sonra bir cümlə ilə başlaya bilərik (burada vergül istifadə etmirik).
Misal üçün:
— “Before you cook dinner, I’ll have a shower.” / “I’ll have a shower before you cook dinner.” = Duş [shower] baş tutacaq ilk hadisədir, axşam yeməyi [dinner] isə ikinci hadisədir.
— “After you cook dinner, I’ll have a shower.” / “I’ll have a shower after you cook dinner.” = Axşam yeməyi [dinner] baş tutacaq ilk hadisədir, duş [shower] isə ikinci hadisədir.
— “When the dinner is ready, I’ll have a shower.” / “I’ll have a shower when the dinner is ready.” = Duş [shower], müəyyən bir anda baş verən ikinci hadisədir.
— “While you cook dinner, I’ll have a shower.” / “I’ll have a shower while you cook dinner.” = İki hadisə eyni vaxtda baş verir.
