Introduction

So that in so…that sta dve različni, a podobni konstrukciji, ki izražata različne stvari.

So that poudarja posledice dejanja ali namena. So…that kaže ekstreme, ki vodijo do določenih rezultatov.

Form

So that (kot prislovni stavek rezultata) in so…that (kot prislov stopnje) sta dve različni strukturi, ampak v obeh primerih lahko izpustimo that.

Struktura so that je:
Clause 1 + so that + clause

Struktura so…that je:
Clause 1 + so + adjective/adverb + that + clause 2

Example

So that

  • I am going to special classes so that I will become a good IT guy.
  • He is saving money so that he can buy a new laptop.
  • I asked my mom to watch the kids so that we can go to the cinema.

So…that

  • Those PCs had so many viruses that they couldn’t use them.
  • My grandfather is so short that I have to reach the top shelves for him.
  • The car was going so fast that I thought we were going to die.

Use

Ponavadi so that (prislovni stavek rezultata) uporabljamo kot konstrukcijsko povezavo med dvema povedima, ko druga poved izraža rezultat ali namen prve.

So…that (prislov stopnje) uporabljamo za ustvarjanje primerjav med dvema stvarema. Z njim poudarimo dejanje, da pokažemo ekstreme, ki vodijo do določenih rezultatov.

Summary

Prislovni stavek rezultata so that uporabljamo, da poudarimo posledico dejanja ali namena:
Clause 1 + so that + clause 2

So…that uporabljamo za ustvarjanje primerjave med dvem stvarema:
Clause 1 + so + adjective/adverb + that + clause 2

Na primer:
— “I will save some money so that I can go to holiday.” = So that uporabimo za izražanje posledice varčevanja denarja.
— “I am so rich that I don’t have to save money to go to holiday.” = So…that uporabimo za primerjanje pogoja in rezultata.
