Neštevni samostalniki

Introduction
Samostalniki [nouns] se nanašajo na osebo, kraj, stvar, dogodek, snov ali pojav.
Neštevni samostalniki [uncountable nouns] so samostalniki, ki se jih ne da enostavno prešteti, in ki jih dojemamo kot snov {glej Samostalniki – Števni & neštevni, stopnja A1}.
Form
Neštevni samostalniki se nanašajo na stvari, ki jih dojemamo kot množico, ne pa kot ločene predmete. Poznamo tri tipe neštevnih samostalnikov:
- Samo z edninsko obliko: advice, baggage, energy, hair, homework, information, money…
- Samo z množinsko obliko: clothes, groceries, news, regards, thanks…
- Neštevni, ko se nanašamo na splošni pomen in števni, ko se nanašamo na specifično stvar ali pomen: a type of, a kind of…, materiali in tekočine: glass, paper, coffee, water…, ali abstraktni samostalniki: life, time…
Example
- Samo edninski neštevni samostalniki
- My baggage is so heavy because of the camera in it!
- Her energy as a salsa dancer is incredible!
- Their money was not enough to buy the painting.
- Samo množinski neštevni samostalniki:
- Could you get the groceries?
- He told me some news about your journey.
- We send our thanks to the director.
- Uporaba tako števnih kot neštevnih:
- She has a lot of glass bowls. / Does she want a glass of coke?
- Can I borrow some coffee? / Shall I get a coffee (= a cup of coffee)?
- I need more time. / I miss the times of my internship ( = a specific period).
Use
Neštevni samostalniki se ponavadi nanašajo na abstraktne ideje, snovi, materiale, pline in tekočine.
Summary
Neštevni samostalniki [uncountable nouns] se nanašajo na stvari, ki jih dojemamo kot množico in ne kot ločene predmete. Poznamo tri tipe neštevnih samostalnikov:
- Samo edninski neštevni samostalniki: advice, baggage, energy hair, homework, information, money…
- Samo množinski neštevni samostalniki: clothes, groceries, news, regards, thanks…
- Tako neštevna kot števna uporaba: a type of…, a kind of…; coffee, glass, paper, water… (materiali in tekočine); life, time… (abstraktni samostalniki).
Na primer:
— “I don´t have energy for another trip.” = Energy ima samo edninsko neštevno obliko.
— “I will tell you later the news of today.” = News ima samo množinsko neštevno obliko.
— “Can I have some coffee?” / “Can I have a coffee?“= Coffee se nanaša na kavo kot prah (edninski neštevni), in a coffee ima implicirani pomen a cup of coffee (edninski števni).
