Introduction
Prídavné mená [adjectives] sú determinanty, ktoré môžu vo vete stáť na dvoch rôznych pozíciách a modifikujú či opisujú určitú osobu alebo vec.
Privlastňovacie prídavné mená [possessive adjectives] používame, keď chceme vyjadriť, že niečo niekomu patrí.
Form
Privlastňovacie prídavné mená používame pred podstatnými menami a môžeme ich rozlíšiť na základe čísla a rodu. Pred přivlastňovacími prídavnými menami nepoužívame členy ani iné determinanty.
Privlastňovacie prídavné mená sú tieto:

- My father and I are policemen.
- Is this her house?
- Our cat doesn’t like fish.
Use
Privlastňovacie prídavné mená používame, keď chceme vyjadriť, že niečo niekomu (osobe alebo zvieraťu) patrí.
POZNÁMKA: Privlastňovacie prídavné mená sú v skutočnosti determinanty, ale v slovníkoch a učebniciach gramatiky sa o nich zvyčajne hovorí ako o prídavných menách.
Summary
Privlastňovacie prídavné mená [possessive adjectives] vyjadrujú náležitosť niečoho človeku či zvieraťu. Rozlišujeme je na základe čísla a rodu.
Sú to: my, your, his, her, its, our, your a their.
Napríklad:
— „It is not her sandwich, it’s my sandwich.“ = Her a my popisujú iný vetný člen (sú to privlastňovacie prídavné mená).
♦ „It is not her sandwich, it’s mine.“ = Mine nahrádza iný vetný člen (je to privlastňovacie zámeno).
NOTE: We don’t use determiners before possessive adjectives, because they are already a kind of determiners.
POZNÁMKA: Pred privlastňovacími prídavnými menami nepoužívame determinanty, vzhľadom k tomu, že ony samy sú jedným z druhov determinantov.
